ReCO2 Jets: What Changes When You Remove CO2 Cylinders?

ReCO2 jets create a CO2-style plume without using CO2 gas cylinders. That is a useful operational distinction. It does not, on its own, establish that the whole event has a lower environmental impact.

ReCO2 is a particular product

SHOWVEN SONICBOOM ReCO2 uses fog fluid and a high-speed fan to create its plume. Integrated LEDs illuminate the output. It is a different machine from the MAGIC FX ECO2JET, another fluid-based alternative to CO2 cylinders.

Do not compare a specification from one with a quote for the other. Ask for the manufacturer and model, particularly when a venue needs an equipment list or when you want to compare power and consumables.

The environmental difference you can identify

A fluid-based simulator avoids consuming CO2 gas cylinders to produce the effect. A complete environmental comparison would also need to account for electricity, fluid manufacture, transport and the equipment used.

The manufacturer pages reviewed for this guide do not provide a comparative lifecycle assessment covering those factors. They therefore do not establish a total carbon reduction for a particular event.

Keep effect-duration comparisons separate from carbon claims. A manufacturer’s comparison with a number of gas bottles describes the effect it can produce; it is not a measured carbon saving for your booking.

Questions for an event comparison

• Which machine and fluid are included in the proposal?

• What power supply does the actual unit require?

• How much fluid is expected for the planned show?

• What transport and crew arrangements are involved?

• Is any environmental statement supported by a relevant measurement or assessment?

Those questions give you a basis for comparing the proposed services. The label “eco” alone does not answer them.
